We will not speak about the possible beginnings of Giotto in the church of Saint Francis in as much as it is a controversial and extremely specialistic subject. In number 0 is proposed the episode of "Isaac rejects Esau" in which several critics have deemed to see the hand of Giotto: On the lower part of the walls of the nave, episodes from the life of St. Francis may be seen. The intervention of Giotto in these frescoes is accepted almost unanimously. Less accepted is the quantity of his intervention and in which episodes. However, notwithstanding the various intervention of the collaborators, mark of a great artistic personality remains clear. In fact, in the whole cycle, one may perceive a kind of representation that is removed more and more from the abstract Byzantine iconography.
